The Nichkhun issue.
For those who are not into kpop/dont know what happened, Nichkhun is a popular 2PM member, which is an Idol Singer Group in South Korea.
Well, whats the problem?
He recently got into a car accident. With a motorcyclist.
Still, yeah? No biggie. Accidents do happen, no matter how careful a person is.
Well here comes the big point.
His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.056%, a percentage where he will be subjected to his license becoming suspended.
*Limit of Blood Alcohol Concentration Level in South Korea is at the cap of 0.05%
Dum dum dum. Suddenly, everyone has the image of "Drunk driving Nichkhun" in their minds.
But why? Why 'drunk' driving?
The only thing proving that he was 'drunk' as the B.A.C over the limit of 0.05% (by 0.006% by the way), and the fact that he had two beers at the party (as told by members of the company).
The main points that everyone is focusing on are only the following three:
1. Idol status
2. 'Drunk' driving
3. Injured motorcyclist
Idol status
Everyone's thinking
"He's an idol! How can he do something like this! He should be perfect, flawless!!"
But did everyone forget his real identity?
He is first and foremost, A Human Being. There is nobody in the world who is perfect. Humans makes mistakes. Everyone does! Even though he is of idol, and famous status, that doesn't mean that he cannot have flaws and errors.
Yes, when they took up the training, the contract, the agreement to be an idol, they are committing themselves to this job. In this time and age, they are expected to be always smiling, never doing wrong, always be a good example for people to follow.
They are supposed to know, when they stepped onto this path, what they have to face, endure and sacrifice.
But is this equivalent to not even making one mistake?
For years and years, they've been abiding by the rules, been restricted, sacrificed so much. Just to be an idol, just to do their job and not let their fans down.
They're humans. They have trying times too. Try to think from their point of view. Nichkhun, or any artiste for that matter, are trying their best, to handle the situation the best they can, when trouble arises.
They do not need unsympathetic netizens to comment on how they should do differently, if not better. They are already battling with themselves for making a mistake, yet nobody is giving them a space to breathe.
Yeah sure, commenting your views are fine. But don't go over the line and bash him continuously. Even he was in the wrong, with the first few comments and reprimands from the netizens are enough to make him understand what he did wrong (if he did not already realise before all the comments, *he reportedly was in panic when the accident happened, and prayed for the motorcyclist's life.). Thats enough. No need to go deep, no need to pressure.
Idols are humans, they make mistakes too.
I see so many comments of "I am so disappointed in Nichkhun", "I used to like him so much."
HOW IS HE DIFFERENT?
Just because he got into something bad, you're suddenly no longer a fan? Hypocritical much.
'Drunk' driving
Honestly, ask yourself. If Nichkhun's B.A.C level was measured to be less than the limit, would all the netizens have such "furious" reactions (-__-)?
What, you mean an idol cant drink? Is this a rule or something whereby once you are an idol, you have to abstain from drinking? What if i love drinking? But i want to become and idol? I have to give one of them up?
Nonsense.
Yeah, idols can drink. Doesnt mean they can drink & drive. However, B.A.C levels do tell the alcohol level in the blood stream of a person.
But it cannot determine whether the person was drunk. Each individual is different, they do not have the same physique.
Although it was verified by a professional that someone of Nichkhun's physique could easily reach a level of 0.056% B.A.C, it does not mean that he was drunk. The alcohol may not have reached the level of affecting him yet. He may still be clear minded, and did not know that he was 'drunk'.
Have you had any friends that always drinks a lot, but was never once drunk? Yeah, they have the ability to not get drunk. Some people just can drink, some people just cant.
Who knows? Perhaps Nichkhun falls in the first category. Stop thinking that he was 'drunk' driving just because he passed the B.A.C limit. Stop focusing on the 'drunk' driving.
Personally, i honestly don't think that he was drunk driving. From some facts that are revealed (2 beers, 0.056%) and from what i read reports of Nichkhun, my impression of him is that he is a responsible person (he did not flee the scene, he stayed and helped). The only reason i can think of why he would be 'drunk' driving, was that he himself did not know that his B.A.C level was slightly high, and he did not feel any side effects of being drunk.
Injured Motorcyclist
With the injured party being a civilian, people are hitting on Nichkhun even harder. They are thinking so much more about the injured motorcyclist, than Nichkhun.
Imagine these situations:
1. The situation where by the (more severed) injured party was a celebrity (in this case, Nichkhun).
The civilian will be bashed by Nichkhun's fans badly, for he has hurt their most beloved idol.
2. The current situation, where by the (more severed) injured party was a civilian.
Nichkhun is being bashed by BOTH his fans, and the netizens.
From the fans view: "You should have been more careful, you're an idol! You have an image to uphold!"
From the netizens view: "How could you injure someone so badly? Even if you are an idol, you have to pay for your mistakes!!"
See the difference? They have a hard life ah~
Both parties, no matter injured or not, they are battling with something. (The injured, healing process, Nichkhun, criticism from the netizens.)
Just because he is an Idol, a person of status, he has to pay dearly for one incident that may not be entirely his fault. Not fair at all. Especially if the netizens don't stop making harsh criticisms and comments.
*His family, for wanting to cheer for him, are being scolded as well.
-___-
For "not considering about the injured's feelings." They, too, had to apologize.
All in all, i do not think that it was entirely Nichkhun's fault in this incident, and he should not have to bear the full consequences all by himself, for no reason. (If you really want one, its only because he is an Idol. -.-)
***Additionally, he is currently being edited out of programs and shows that he has already filmed, and was originally planned to be broadcasted. Even in his CF (commercials) that he was involved in with his fellow 2PM members and labelmate, he was cut out totally on the website banner. Reason from the producers "We will do everything to ensure that our viewers do not feel uncomfortable watching the program." Speechless. If you think Nichkhun would make your viewers feel uncomfortable, why cast him in the first place? |
