The next step in Life.

University or Not?

A major question, not only on my mind. But on all of my peers', im sure.

This is the next big step in life. We've done Primary, Secondary, and now, even Poly. All of which are considered 'necessary' in Singapore.

Well, education is really held in high regard here. And its something that all Singaporean kids have gotten used to seeing, and well as being part of.

But Uni's a totally different thing. Its not compulsory, its not a complete necessity. Its a choice. But come on, who's not a Uni fresh graduate these days? Even if its not a compulsory education in Singapore, slowly, but surely, its becoming more and more like a norm here. 1 out of 10 job seekers are Degree holders. So what  can you do to compete with them, other than doing the same thing - Applying, and completing University education.

Like what my uncle is always saying "Everyone out there is a U grad. You only have Diploma, how to fight?"

But to me, there's really two sides to this decision.

Yes, it may be true that everyone has to fight in the working industry as well as for themselves. But frankly, is it really necessary? To do something, just because everyone is doing it?

That is the one of the reasons why im still contemplating against Uni, among other reasons. I do not have a particular reason, nor motivation to definitely, MUST go Uni. The best reason i can think of is : its good for my future. I should do it.

But why? If i do not have motivation to do something, its almost forceful to do it. How can one be happy in such a situation?

But yes, motivation, interest and all that can be cultivated over time slowly. But lets face it. You've already been studying for 10 over years. You have been bounded to this whole policy, whole lifestyle almost your whole life. Arent you tired of this already?

I do. I feel tired, i feel bored, i feel restless. The mere thought of being bounded for another 4 years just shakes me. I just want to take a break.

But here comes argument number 2:

Why not just finish the whole course of education in one shot? You have the learning and studying momentum now. Just finish it now, and everything's done.

This is also true, to be honest. Im afraid that i will lose interest in studying, learning and just being in school once im out of that environment. This is not something that you can learn and adapt to in just a night or two. Years and years are required.

Also, finance is another issue. It is definitely not cheap to study in Singapore, and much less to say, Universities in Singapore. Working part-time/full-time is mandatory, and whos to say that you can be able to balance work and life, and now, even studying?

Ah~~~~ Stressed over such major decisions. If only someone can plan out my life for me perfectly, and all i would need to do is to just follow that one plan. :l

Okay.... back to struggling with my choices and thoughts....
