Day 01 - Your Favourite Quote

“People shouldn’t dwell on the past. It’s enough to try your best in all that you’re doing now.” – Aya

This quote is from the drama, 1 Litre of Tears. The main lead, Ikeuchi Aya is based on a real Japanese girl, Aya Kito, who suffered from spinocerebellar ataxia. This is a rare, progressive, degenerative and genetic disease attacks the nero cells of the brain, and slowly, the patient will lose coordination with their movement, hands, legs and speech. Currently, there is no cure for this disease.

The cruelty of this disease was that it was degenerative, and progressive. You could do nothing, except watch the disease worsen over time. But Aya faced on all of the obstacles. She bravely walked on, facing everything with a positive mind. She let the past go, walking on to a better future.

And its true. Dwelling on the past makes no difference to your future. It cannot be changed. Living in the past, only hinders you from the future. In the end, you will only be a shadow of your own reflection, living in the knowledge that you made yourself turn out this way.

Even though regrets may linger, but we should never let it distract us from the now. We should pack up our emotions, feelings and thoughts. Carry it as part of us, but never a core of us. The now, is key. The now, brings us where we want to go.

Doing things that you can do now, to the best of your ability is the best way to remember your past. Although I agree that the past can never be forgotten, I do believe that we can rethink the way we look at the past instead. To be a better memory, a better 'burden'.

Pack up everything, and walk on to a better future, starting from now.
