Day 02 - A movie you want to see.

'Saving Private Ryan'

Actually, my father has this movie. But I never had the interest to watch it at all. But my father has always loved the show, and I believe, has watched the film many times.

So why the sudden interest? Recently, I realized the true meaning of the movie. A brief overview of the story:
The Normandy Invasion was starting in the US. Many young men were sent to war. A general in Washington DC, was informed that 3 out of 4 brothers in the Ryan family died in war, and that their mother was to receive all three Bixby letters (a consoling letter from Abraham Lincoln) on the same day. The general then ordered that the last Ryan boy be found and sent home. Thus begins the dangerous journey of a group of men to bring Private Ryan home.

So.... what sparked off my interest was compassion.

Compassion in the general, given to the Ryan family, to order that the last Ryan boy be found. Sent home, to his mother, to give her a little comfort in the knowledge that she still has one son.

Compassion in the group of men, given to the Ryan family, as well as Private Ryan, so much that they could risk their lives for a family that is not related to them.

And also, sorrow in Private Ryan's life - knowing that his brothers were dead, and knowing that people had died (some men died along the way to find him), just for his life. Just so that he could live. He had to deal with the guilt, sorrow, and confusion in his heart. All while still holding the front line of defense for his country.

How would he have felt at that time? How... would you have felt?
